Creating A Surface Thickness Direction Following Lines
What if you want to give and make the thickness of an object's surface based on a curvature toward the line as a reference? You can use the Extrude Along Spline features.
Here's the trick:
1. you create a 3-D object, for example a cylinder that you Convert to Editable Poly. Then you create an object above the line shape Cylinder. Open the Modify tab and select Polygon mode then you click on the side surface (polygon) the top of the Cylinder object.
2. you click the image button next to the post box Extrude Along Spline
3 Will open window Extrude Polygons Along Spline. Click the Spline Pick and choose the line you created in the Viewport. Furthermore, set the value of Segments = 100 (Segments are additional sections that objects look smoother) and Taper Amount = -0.9 (Taper Amount magnification or reduction is selected surface side). Then click the OK button
4 Now you see in the Viewport, Cylinder object has changed shape
